Model School for the Deaf’s long-awaited victory gives the football program a lift

It’s a recent Thursday night in Northeast Washington, and four seniors are standing on the sideline of a turf football field pondering the end.

The football season is almost halfway complete, and the chilly fall air, though rare this month, serves as a reminder of that. The colder it gets, the closer they are to turning the lights off for good. Ola Waddell knows this. The last five games of the season are the last five of his life. It’s why he came back for one final run.
