At the Title IX Holiday Classic, D.C. area contenders look for challenges and respect

On a quiet and drizzly afternoon in Southeast Washington, inside the cavernous D.C. Armory, there was a celebration of high school girls’ basketball.

It was the final day of the 11th annual Title IX Holiday Classic, and five games were happening at once. The old multi-purpose arena, often quiet at mid-day on a Monday, was filled with whistles and dribbles and sneaker squeaks.
