When Mordecai McDaniel appeared at indoor track practice at St. John’s this past fall, his coaches’ and teammates’ faces lit up.

McDaniel wasn’t around for the end of last spring’s outdoor track season after he pulled his hamstring early on. Without him, the Cadets fell a few points short of the D.C. State Athletic Association title.

But with McDaniel back, there was a revamped energy among his teammates. They knew they had a shot to reclaim the DCSAA title.
