DC STATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATON EXTENDS SUMMER DEAD PERIOD

Washington, DC – The DC State Athletic Association has extended its summer dead period for
athletics, DCSAA Executive Director Clark Ray announced today.

With the District of Columbia in a Public Health Emergency through July 24, 2020, the summer dead
period will start today and continue while the Public Health Emergency is in place.

“While we are eager for the return of high school athletics, it is not yet time for our student-
athletes to return to the practice fields or competition,” Ray said. “We are continually monitoring
the situation, but at present the benefits do not outweigh the risks. It is important for all us to
stay safe and remain vigilant in the fight against COVID-19.”

During  the  dead  period,  high  school  teams  are  not  permitted  to  conduct  in  person
Skill Development Sessions or any other in person team-related functions.
