WASHINGTON, D.C. – The District of Columbia State Athletic Association mourns the recent passing of DCSAA High School Hall of Fame Class of 2020 inductees John Thompson Jr. and Sheila Ingram.

“Coach Thompson and Sheila both made their mark on athletics in Washington, D.C., and we are incredibly sad that they are no longer with us,” DCSAA Executive Director Clark Ray said. “We send our condolences to their families and want to share that we are thinking of them.”

A standout basketball player at Archbishop Carroll High, Thompson went on to play at Providence College and then two NBA championship seasons with the Boston Celtics before turning to coaching. He guided the boys basketball team at St. Anthony’s High from 1966 to 1972 and then coached at Georgetown University from 1972 to 1999, winning an NCAA title in 1984.

Ingram graduated from Coolidge High in 1976 and that summer won the 400-meter run at the U.S. Olympic Trials. She then finished sixth in the 400 and won the silver medal as part of the 4x400-meter relay at the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games.

Thompson and Ingram were among the 10 men and women inducted into the DCSAA High School Hall of Fame this year. To learn more about the District of Columbia State Athletic Association, please visit www.dcsaasports.org
