WASHINGTON, DC (January 5, 2021) – The District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) has signed a partnership with the American Dairy Association North East. As part of the comprehensive partnership, Chocolate Milk will be the Official Recovery Beverage of the DCSAA. The partnership will also provide a resource to athletes, coaches and parents looking for sports nutrition advice.  A panel of collegiate and professional sports nutritionists will provide monthly content for DCSAA social platforms. In addition, information and handouts focusing on topics including hydration, protein, the importance of breakfast and healthy snacking can be downloaded from the American Dairy website

“Milk plays an important role in an athlete’s diet because it’s a source of so many essential nutrients including calcium, Vitamin D and protein” says Rick Naczi, CEO American Dairy Association North East. “Chocolate milk provides the optimal nutritional mix to help athletes replenish nutrients and rebuild muscle after exercise.”

In fact, chocolate milk provides a 3:1 carbohydrate-to-protein ratio recommended by sports nutritionists for post workout recovery and is backed by 20 scientific studies. Milk and milk’s protein has been shown to help athletes gain more lean muscle and lose fat when compared to drinking a carb-only beverage. Athletes drink lowfat chocolate milk because it helps restore muscles quickly to their peak potential and replenish what the body loses during strenuous exercise — including fluids, important nutrients and electrolytes (calcium, potassium, sodium and magnesium) lost in sweat.

“We are excited to partner with the American Dairy Association North East and look forward to introducing our student-athletes to the “Refuel With Chocolate Milk” campaign,” stated Clark Ray, Executive Director of the District of Columbia State Athletic Association.   “We are looking forward to having the American Dairy Association North East participate in select DCSAA State Championship events and refuel our future DCSAA Champions.”

Representing over 10,000 dairy farm families in the Northeast, the American Dairy Association North East conducts consumer education about milk and dairy foods through schools and works with health professionals through the National Dairy Council®.

In 2012, the Executive Office of the Mayor and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) established the DC State Athletic Association (DCSAA), an association of District of Columbia public schools, public charter schools, and independent schools (private and parochial schools). DCSAA participants share knowledge and best practices to enhance student-athlete achievement through athletic programming and to provide life quality learning experiences. DCSAA participants also adhere to a set of uniform standards and rules to ensure student-athletes have opportunities for state-level competition. The Statewide Athletic Director oversees the affairs of the DCSAA as its Executive Director. DCSAA awards DC State Championship titles in boys’ and girls’ cross-country, boys’ and girls’ soccer, and boys’ football in Division I and II, beginning in fall 2012. Learn more at:
