Initially, when the bus didn’t show up on time Thursday night, the Anacostia girls’ basketball team used the delay to take a few more warmup shots in Southeast Washington.
But as each minute passed and tip-off at Wilson approached, the Indians grew more and more anxious. They worried the bus might not show up at all and the rematch of last year’s D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association championship game could be canceled. A few players even concocted a conspiracy theory involving Wilson, “like the bus was on their side,” senior Asisha Greene said.
