Perhaps all St. John’s and Gonzaga needed was a breather.
A matchup billed as a clash between the area’s top two boys’ basketball teams resembled a playground pickup game early on as turnovers and shooting woes plagued both the Cadets and Eagles. But following a 15-minute fourth-quarter intermission to clean up a floor damp with sweat and moisture, the competitive contest anticipated by the overflow crowd at Gallagher Gymnasium at St. John’s finally surfaced.
