With his team down at the half for the second time in as many days, DeMatha’s Markelle Fultz knew full well what was expected of him during Sunday’s game with No. 1 Gonzaga.
It wasn’t to take over the game, though he did that, scoring 13 fourth-quarter points. And it wasn’t to force the issue, though Fultz could have after seeing the Stags struggle to keep up with the red-hot shooting of the Eagles.
“People might think I need to score all the time,” Fultz said, “but as a point guard, I’m scanning the floor to take whatever the defense gives us.”
