Girls Basketball: Paul VI Survives Late St. John’s Rally When Potential Buzzer-Beater Doesn’t Fall

Paul VI sophomore Amira Collins looked on helplessly across the lane when St. John’s senior Sarah Overcash collected the errant shot underneath the basket. The final second of this Washington Catholic Athletic Conference girls’ basketball grudge match ticked off the clock and, in one motion, Overcash flicked the ball over her shoulder and off the backboard. Paul VI’s Kate Klimkiewicz instantly thought, “Oh no.”

But Collins said, once the game was over, she never considered that the first time back at her old school could end in buzzer-beating heartbreak. She may “miss the memories I created at St. John’s,” but her new team already had another one to talk about Sunday.
