Rowing: National Cathedral & St. Albans Claim VASRA Titles

National Cathedral was ahead of the pack when it was greeted by headwinds midway through the girls’ varsity eight race Saturday afternoon on the Occoquan River. But thanks to hundreds of hours of training on the windy Potomac — sometimes upstream, as they did in Friday’s practice — the Eagles are well prepared for imperfect conditions.

So when the wind picked up in Saturday’s Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association state championships, they knew exactly what to do. That experience pushed them to a dominant first-place finish in 5 minutes 15.5 seconds.
