Maret boys’ basketball star Luka Garza stretched out his 6-foot-11 frame along the sideline at DeMatha earlier this month and looked to be in a trance observing the action unfolding on the court. Though he seemed a picture of discomfort, hunched forward in a folding chair with a backpack still around his shoulders, this was his element.

“I try to pick apart anything I see,” Garza would say later. “I love to watch and take moves. I do that every time I play basketball.”
