Wide receiver Malcolm Davis is only playing for the KIPP football team this fall because Kingsman Academy, the charter school he attends, could not field one. But he quickly picked up on the significance of KIPP’s home opener at brand-new Golden Field because, like his new teammates, he had never experienced a true home game before.
Though the turf field was in place by early September, players had to wait while a track was laid down and bleachers for about 750 spectators were completed. So once Saturday arrived, most of the Panthers showed up for the game early.
