Theodore Roosevelt seniors Demontae Hines and Mahireyaa Kao could tell from hallway interactions this week the difference they are making at the Northwest Washington school primarily known for its powerhouse boys’ basketball team.
Students Hines had never met were approaching him to talk about the Rough Riders’ football team, which hosts Bell Friday night with first place in the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association Stripes division on the line. Friends that never previously came to games promised Kao they would be there to watch the placekicker in action this week.
“The whole school is showing love,” Kao said. “We appreciate that.”
