The H.D. Woodson football team spent all week installing contingency plans to compensate for the loss of starting quarterback Kahlil Wright , and the Warriors pulled out the most daring one to clinch Friday night’s 41-35 win over Wilson in Northeast Washington.

Facing fourth and one from its own 27-yard line, Woodson successfully converted a fake punt when tailback Mychale Salahuddin caught a direct snap from senior Charles Peeler and picked up two yards as the clock ticked below one minute remaining. The three-time defending Turkey Bowl champions finally could celebrate on an evening when they were at their resourceful best.
