St. John’s had lined up for a game-tying extra point when the flag flew into the air because DeMatha had too many players on the field. Right then, Stags linebacker Grant Donaldson realized the Cadets were about to go for the win, needing less than two yards to break their long losing streak in this rivalry.
Following a timeout, out came the St. John’s offense for a two-point conversation with 3:12 remaining in regulation. Donaldson saw the formation and made a pre-snap decision. He was going all in, too.
“I knew something was coming my way,” Donaldson said. “I just decided to run in there, blow it up as much as possible, and it paid off.”
