When DeMatha eked out a 14-13 win over St. John’s in October, and the drama matched the considerable pregame hype, the natural question was whether these two Washington Catholic Athletic Conference rivals would meet again this season. To the delight of area football observers, the rematch is here and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
No. 1 DeMatha will take on No. 4 St. John’s Saturday afternoon in the WCAC championship game at the University of Maryland. The Stags will be looking for their fourth straight title and their first undefeated season since 2006. St. John’s is hoping to capture its first championship since 1989, and doing so would also give the Cadets their first victory over DeMatha in football since 1994.
