Ronald Cook cradled a handoff out of the shotgun formation and wove among his team’s mountainous offensive linemen. The diminutive St. John’s sophomore had not taken more than three handoffs in a varsity game entering Saturday’s contest against fourth-ranked Gonzaga, but his 11th carry of the afternoon put the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference semifinals on ice.
Cook’s 10-yard score marked his second touchdown of the day, and it put the final dagger in the No. 8 Cadets’ 38-21 road victory over their District rival in Northwest Washington. The replacement running back bounced toward his jubilant teammates on the sideline and bellowed, “We goin’ to the ’ship!”
