The first pass H.D. Woodson junior Tyron Robinson threw when called upon to replace injured starting quarterback Kahlil Wright was an interception. Frustrated and frazzled on the sideline, Robinson did not play again in that Sep. 29 game, a 12-8 win over Ballou in the rain.
It seemed then, with no reliable signal caller, the Warriors’ three-year reign atop the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association was more tenuous than ever.
But Robinson was not deterred by his inauspicious debut. He won the job back the next week, once Woodson learned Wright would miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, and then helped the Warriors beat Wilson in a Turkey Bowl rematch in his first start. He’s only been getting better since.
