The Washington International girls’ soccer team lined up for penalty kicks Wednesday afternoon and faced its toughest challenge of the day — keeping its boys’ team quiet.

Before each kick, the line of Red Devils at midfield turned to shush their classmates on the sideline.

“We were so nervous we needed quiet,” senior defender Lea Tokinpar said.

After a pair of saves by sophomore Luciana Moore, sophomore Ela Kalra slotted home the winning penalty to give the fans a moment of unabated celebration as Washington International won the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference final, topping Oakcrest, 4-3 in penalty kicks, after regulation and overtime ended in a 2-2 tie.
