In front of the packed but dead-silent bleachers, Ellie Mitchell stood on the free throw line and calmly sank both attempts to give Georgetown Visitation a cushion in the final minute against Holy Child.
But it was only fitting that the sophomore would seal the Cubs’ 41-31 victory on the other end of her home court. In a crouch while defending on the perimeter on the ensuing possession, Mitchell utilized every inch of her 5-foot-11 frame as she lunged forward and poked the ball free for a game-ending steal.
