Tyre Allen November Impact Player of the Month

Tyre Allen, a senior running back and defensive back for the McKinley Tech football team, has been named the District of Columbia State Athletic Association U.S. Army Impact Player of the Month for November.

Allen, who was a captain for McKinley Tech in 2017, was nominated for the award by LaShay Wilkerson, the school's athletic director. Wilkerson, who is in her first year at McKinley Tech, selected Allen because it became apparent to her in a short amount of time just how strong of a leader he is.

Allen was presented the award at an assembly in front of an audience of his classmates and teachers. Upon receiving the award, Allen immediately thanked his offensive line for helping him have such a strong senior year, which saw him earn first-team All-League honors in the DCIAA Stripes Division as a running back.

"It's just a humbling experience because there are so many good players in DC, so for me to be picked out of all those players I just feel grateful," Allen said. "It's always good as an athlete to see your hard work pay off."

Allen has excelled away from the gridiron as well, and currently maintains a 3.1 GPA. He has fielded a couple offers to play collegiately, but is yet to make his decision on where he wants to go.

Emblematic of his character, Allen is looking for the opportunity to play for a college that offers him more than just football.

"As far as a school, I'm looking for a school with a good IT program, and a team that genuinely wants to win," Allen said.
