Senior guard Myles Dread led the Eagles with 19 points as third-seeded Gonzaga upset the top-seeded Panthers in the first WCAC semifinal of the day at Bender Arena.

The Eagles, the defending WCAC champions, will play for their third WCAC title in four seasons. Last year, Gonzaga upset Paul VI in the title game behind Chris Lykes, who is now a freshman at Miami. In this championship game, it will be Dread’s turn to lead.

“He’s the senior, the emotional leader,” Gonzaga Coach Steve Turner said.

Dread started fast, scoring 11 points in the first quarter to help Gonzaga build an early 15-9 lead. Sophomore Terrance Williams chipped in 13 points.

“I told the team at the beginning of the game that we hadn’t been a first-half team all season, so why not now?” Dread said. “And that’s what we ended up doing, and it took them a long time to recover.”

Paul VI junior guard Anthony Harris led the Panthers with 20 points.
