After their teams met twice in the regular season, St. John’s Coach Jonathan Scribner and Bishop McNamara Coach Frank Oliver alluded to a possible third meeting. It seemed reasonable — especially in the moments after their girls’ basketball programs twice provided 90 minutes of thrilling entertainment, both narrowly won by St. John’s — to think that the Cadets and Mustangs would meet again in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference tournament championship game.
